ICE CREAM (sandwiches and coffee)! I'm always up for little adventures, and what better way to test out my new camera then venture out to the windward side for an ice cream treat and coffee!

ChadLou's have THE most perfect nommies for your tummy! There are ice cream sandwiches, in which you choose from their in-house baked cookies and a range of unique ice creams (including Okinawan sweet potato!). My selection today was the chocolate chip cookies filled with "Hawaiian Mud Pie" ice cream. I washed it down with one their signature coffees - the Makapu'u Mocha - coconut, macadamia, mocha flavored coffee... ugh so yum!

Great Balls of Fire!

Sunset.jpg

I cannot emphasize enough, how little this picture does tonight's sunset justice! The sun was a perfect circle of blazing orange and red and HUGE! I've never seen it so clearly (and now my eyeballs don't see so clearly from staring directly at it :P) but it was AH-MA-ZING!

Given that I've been back in the residence of the Hawaiian Isles for almost a good 5 years now and not to mention my connections to the war following these events (my paternal grandfather fought on the American side in WWII) it is with a hint of embarassment that I admit - today was my first time in visiting Pearl Harbor and the Arizona War Memorial.

With a friend visiting from overseas it gave me a good chance to play tourist and cross another item off my bucket list and I'm so glad I did! A very moving and informative tour it was! To see the USS Arizona submerged and still leaching oil to this day and yet, life was still able to overcome and build a living reef on the actual wreckage with thriving fish swimming amongst it - if that's not a symbol for resiliance and hope I don't know what is!

So if you're not sick of still seeing my Kauai tour then here's another taste to wet your appetite! I decided to take an aerial tour since I heard it's a must do and the only way to see much of the undeveloped island! It was well worth it and I was lucky enough to sit in the cockpit!

From top to bottom (roughly): We saw many whales - this was a baby whale and momma whale, viewing the numerous coffee fields and the queen's former residence, Waimea Canyon, the majestic Na'Pali Coast, Hanalei Bay, and Mt. Wai'ale'ale!

I'm in a creative block designing new posters for my shop, so I'm procrastinating by doing another thing on my To Do list that I'm late on... my 2nd round of Kauai pics!

Here is Hanalei Valley and Hanalei Bay. The first looks over Hanalei Valley and is of the taro patches. It was overcast on the day I went to Hanalei Beach and Bay but I kind of like the tone it casts over the beach. The last few images are on the road on my walk back to my car. See, I wanted to park next to the pier but my GPS lead my astray so I parked on the opposite side - 5 miles away. I walked the entire way on the beach towards the pier and then had to walk another 5 miles back to my car. All because I was too lazy to move my car closer to the pier - logic eludes me sometimes.

Also a little trivia - Hanalei Bay is where they filmed part of the movie The Descendents with George Clooney as well as I heard Mr. Zoolander himself is often seen popping into the area a few times a year.

So here's the first batch of my trip to Kauai! I was going to post it by days but there were too many to share within each day so I'll be breaking it down to locations...

First up is the Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge. Beautiful scenery and lighthouse with wildlife roaming all over - from birdies to seals, whales and turtles! Great start to my trip!

Candy Coated

Here's just a snippet of my amazing trip to Kauai! It was a perfect cotton candy colored end to my trip! Seriously, the picture does not do it justice to what it looked like in reality. Even the sea was an ombre pink!

More pictures coming soon... it may be a while as I have around 550 photos to sort through! Stay tuned!
